New Travel Trends That Exclude Flying This Summer

Flying is not the idea way to travel as it once was in a less hectic and simpler time. The air carriers have consistently justified in their minds reasons for upping their once budget friendly fees and rates and destination ports to a level that many families of four cannot afford. Some people attribute these changes to nothing more than greed. Regardless of what the reasons are, it is no longer economically viable for many families to use this form of transportation for vacation purposes simply because this expense is usually higher than the rest of the vacation expenses combined and out of reach.

With the economy and job market being what it currently is, many families have counted the cost and decided to drive and enjoy the scenery and use spend the money usually marked for air fares on more practical luxuries once they arrive at their vacation destination. This has also lead to an increase of less stress in the budget department for the vacation planner.

New fees seem to be showing up at every air carrier every day. One airline known as Spirit Airlines made the announcement that they will start charging for carry on bags that don't fit under the seat and storing anything in the overhead compartment be have a $100 tab attached and there is new talk from other airlines that they are considering charging passengers for using the on board plane restrooms.

No one can successful argue that if a business doesn't charge enough for its services it cannot stay in business very long and this is true for the airlines charging for their services. However, if any company unjustly inflates their service prices just because they can, they can expect for many of their previous customers to find an alternative way to get to their destination a little cheaper and in some cases a whole lot cheaper. Many travelers now have decided to either use their personal vehicle or rent one and who could blame them?

Of course, while many people think that this limits their holiday options, most people have not even begun to appreciate where they live and this makes domestic travel even more appealing. Looking around you might be surprised how many holiday destinations are right in your own backyard offering an opportunity for a road trip for the entire family. Car travel can provide you with a discount alternative to expensive airline travel and more and more often travelers are using this option to avoid paying the extra fees that the airlines keep tacking onto their already high ticket prices.
